The light-dark box test (also known as light-dark transition test) is used to evaluate the relative anxiety status of an animal. It is based on a conflict between the rodent innate aversion to brightly illuminated areas and the spontaneous exploratory activity. This is a standard screening test for putative anxiolytic and anxyogenic compounds, often being combined with elevated plus maze test.
Available for rats or mice.
